About

Santa’s Cave is a not for profit organisation run by volunteers from the community in Waikerie. The committee, currently consisting of 9 members in 2024, meets monthly from March to August and then more frequently as required as we get closer to set up in November.

Santa’s Cave would not exist without the support of the Loxton Waikerie District Council who sponsor the use of the Institute and Soldiers Memorial Hall each year at a significant cost.

We also have support from other community groups such as the Rotary Club for which we are extremely grateful as they store and help set up all our amazing decorations.

History

The Waikerie Institute, Soldiers Memorial Hall was built in 1919 as a memorial to soldiers who had fought during WW1. The soldiers were offered payment for their services but chose instead to build the Hall for the community. The hall was completed in 1928. The hall features a large stage and wooden flooring and houses the town honor rolls for men who served in conflicts up to 1973.

Santa’s Cave began 24 years ago and has been a well loved event ever since.
